About US
Star-Mites Gym Sports started by a desire to introduce pre school children to the great sport of gymnastics. Mother and
daughter Gail and Suzanne Melinger teamed up in 1991 to create what has become the largest fully equipped gymnastics centre in
Bayswater, Perth Western Australia . The programs we hold include Pre-school gymnastics, General gymnastics, Men's & Woman's
Gymnastics, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Sports Acrobatics and Cheerleading
In 1992 Star-Mites Gym Sports opened its doors in a 760 sqm factory in Bayswater. Whilst still teaching pre-school classes it
introduced competitive and recreational women's and men's gymnastics to its program, through the dedicated work of both Gail and
Suzanne the gym club enjoyed great success. With the help of their committed staff and the continuing expansion of the membership
base in 1998 the club was able to lease an adjoining factory, knocking down a wall the club now had over 1050 sqm of floor space.
2002 saw the opening of Star-Mites Gym Sports second branch in a pavilion operated by the West Australian Gymnastics Association.
The North Perth branch grew rapidly with membership going from 0 to 230 in the first year, the growth being directly linked to great
management, good equipment and fantastic coaches.
In 2004 the Bayswater branch once again expanded into the third adjoining factory, taking the floor area to 1300 sqm meters with
a membership base of 440 gymnasts and some 100 school children passing through the doors each week, it also extended its programs to
include Cheerleading and Rhythmic gymnastics.
Over the past years the club has enjoyed outstanding success in the competition arena, boosting hundreds of state champions, with
a large number going on to represent the State of Western Australia in numerous National Championships and International events.
2004 also saw the club win the Western Australian State Championship Cup, having won more gold silver and bronze medals than any
other club in the state.
2005 heralded the introduction of yet another sports discipline "Sports Acrobatics" the trio division winning the over
all gold medal at the 2005 state championships. |
